Pool decks are one of the toughest surfaces to coat properly. You've got constant water exposure, fluctuating temps, and concrete that's constantly pulling moisture up from below. Skip the right prep and system, and you'll be peeling and flaking within a couple seasons. That's exactly why we don't cut corners on jobs like this one.
For this pool deck, we ran a full flake floor system in coyote color - a clean, neutral tone that works great in an outdoor setting. But before any flake hit the surface, we installed a moisture vapor barrier. That step is non-negotiable around a pool. Without it, trapped moisture pushes up through the concrete and destroys a coating from the inside out. The barrier locks that out completely.
From there, we applied a polyaspartic base coat, broadcast the flake, and finished it with a polyaspartic top coat. Polyaspartic is tougher than standard epoxy - it handles UV exposure, resists hot and cold swings, and dries fast. For an outdoor pool deck that gets real use, it's the right call. The finish has a texture to it that's comfortable underfoot and gives solid grip when things get wet.
What we ended up with is a surface that holds up to everything a backyard pool throws at it - splashing, foot traffic, direct sun, and the freeze-thaw cycle that comes every winter. It looks sharp, but more importantly, it's built to last. That's the whole point. We take pride in giving folks something they can actually enjoy for years without worrying about it.
