Most patios get ignored until they start looking bad. Faded stamped concrete, surface wear, staining - it adds up. This patio was at that point. You can see what we were working with before we got started: old stamped concrete that had run its course and needed a real solution, not just a sealer slapped on top.

We went with our Nightfall flake floor system on this one. The process starts with proper surface prep - grinding down the existing concrete so the coating actually bonds the way it should. That step is what separates a coating that lasts from one that peels in a few seasons. We also installed a moisture vapor barrier before anything else went down, which is especially important on outdoor slabs where ground moisture can work against adhesion over time.

From there, it's a polyaspartic base coat, a full broadcast of Nightfall flakes, and a polyaspartic top coat to seal everything in. Polyaspartic is a step up from standard epoxy - it cures faster, handles UV exposure without yellowing, and holds up against temperature swings and heavy use. For a patio that sees sun, rain, and foot traffic, that matters.

The Nightfall color blend gives you that cool, granite-like look with a mix of dark charcoal, medium grey, and lighter tones all working together. It reads clean and modern without being loud. And because the flakes add texture under that top coat, you get a slip-resistant surface - not just a pretty one. We also coated the patio edge, so the finished look wraps clean all the way around.

This kind of system works great on patios, landings, pool decks, and entryways - really anywhere you've got outdoor concrete that needs to perform and look good doing it.
