Outdoor concrete is tough to protect. It gets hit with rain, UV, temperature swings, foot traffic - and over time, bare concrete just breaks down. A front porch especially takes a beating because it sits exposed, and if moisture gets underneath the coating, you end up with peeling and bubbling down the road. That's exactly why we don't skip the moisture vapor barrier step.
For this porch, we went with a full polyaspartic flake floor system in our Stoney Creek color - a clean, neutral gray blend that works really well against the existing stonework on this home. Polyaspartic is our go-to for outdoor surfaces because it handles UV exposure without yellowing, and it cures fast. The moisture vapor barrier goes down first to lock out any ground moisture trying to push up through the slab. That's what separates a coating that lasts from one that fails in a year.
The finished surface has a solid, even texture across the entire porch - right up to the edges. No thin spots, no missed corners. The flake system also adds a slight texture to the surface, which gives you better traction underfoot versus a plain sealed slab. For a front porch that sees daily use, that's a practical benefit you'll notice every time it's wet outside.
Beyond the look, this setup is genuinely low maintenance. You're not sealing bare concrete every year or scrubbing out stains. A quick rinse keeps it looking sharp. This homeowner gets a porch that's protected, easy to care for, and a lot better looking than what was there before.
